Jabiru Safari Lodge is located in the Mareeba Wetlands just 75 minutes drive from Cairns, in the heart of the Australian Savannah.

Stay in African-style tented safari cabins on an Internationally renowned nature reserve of over 5000 acres of lightly timbered savanna grassland surrounded by native Australian wild life.  

There's plenty to do for Bird Watchers and Nature Lovers including:

  • Custom Safaris specifically designed to see the best of Bird and Wildlife
  • 12 km of self guided walking trails
  • Eco-cruise by quiet battery powered boat tours
  • Wooden hand crafted canoes for a leisurely paddle on Clancy's Lagoon
  • Take a drive further and explore the renowned rainforest, waterfalls and local fresh produce

Safari tours:
The custom-designed, open safari vehicle allows excellent wildlife and birdlife viewing where you can expect to see kangaroos, wallabies, frilled-neck lizards and emus are regularly sighted, along with many of the over 220 bird species on the Reserve.   Safaris depart daily at 7 am, 11.30 am and 3.30 pm.  

Bird watchers paradise:
The Wetlands are situated on the East Asian/Australasian flyway, attracting migratory birds and providing a sanctuary for a wide variety of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife. 

Safari tents:
The Safari tents are surrounded by the natural settings of the savannah.  Wake up to a dawn chorus with the sounds of Kookaburras and Brolgas.  Enjoy the private verandah at night while stargazing under the southern sky. 

All-Inclusive tariff includes:

  • Twin share accommodation
  • All meals* (including lunches on multiple-night stays)
  • One wildlife safari per night of accommodation
  • All activities including canoeing
  • Self guided walking
  • Eco cruise 
  • Membership of the Wildlife Conservancy of Tropical Queensland.

* Breakfast is a breakfast pack that you can prepare in your cabin.  The dinner is a BBQ pack that you can prepare at the BBQ.  The lunch is a simple lunch of quiche or pastries. 

We recommend a 2 night stay at the Jabiru Safari Lodge if time permits to give you time to explore the conservation park and participate in all activities. 

Deluxe Tented Safari Cabins are well-appointed with comfortable queen or double beds and one single bed, all with linen, towels, private deck and ensuite bathroom. There is 240V power, fan, fridge, kettle and a toaster. The private deck has a table and three chairs and a limited mini-bar is also available. 

Eco Solar Powered Tented Safari Cabins are spacious and light with three comfortable single beds and all linen, towels and ensuite bathrooms. There is 12V solar power and a gas fridge. All cabins have a private timber deck with a gas stove with BBQ Plate, kettle and a gas toaster as well as tables and chairs. A limited mini-bar is available.

Jabiru Camp takes its name from the striking black-necked stork, the Mareeba Wetland Foundation's emblem.  Experience first hand the incredible wildlife and biodiversity found at the Savanna and Wetlands Reserve and contribute to it's long term sustainability.

Jabiru Camp is closed during the wet season months of February to March inclusive.
